Description
Become a better photographer in beautiful surroundings along the coastline of Eastern Finnmark (Arctic Norway). We invite you to join our workshop to be based at Hornøya Lighthouse on 2 – 5 August. Here we will spend lots of time together with puffins and other seabirds on one of Norway’s undisputedly best bird cliffs. The puffins are busy bringing food to their young during this special time of year, which can make for some very special pictures. The Midnight Sun is also beautiful to behold such that we should be able to look forward to many wonderful photographic experiences in the natural splendor of Northern Norway.

Some of the theory we will spend time discussing at this workshop will be related to:

- Composition and layout of pictures

- Action photography and panning to capture images of puffins, guillemot, etc. in flight

- Use of camouflage and mating calls

- Landscape photography and macro techniques

- Planning a photography project

- Photographic expression in your pictures

- Image processing in Photoshop / RAW file conversion (as a reserve method if the weather turns bad...)

You will have ample opportunity to discuss things you are wondering about directly with the course leader while we are out taking pictures, which we will spend much time doing. Much emphasis will be put on reviewing pictures taken by participants after a day of taking pictures. We begin on Thursday 2 August at 17:00 with transport via boat over to Hornøya Island. The course will officially wrap up Sunday 5 August at 13:00 with lunch and course conclusion. All food, lodging, lectures and transport during the course are included in the course fee.

Required skills: It is advantageous if you have some previous experience with the use of your photographic equipment. If you are not fully adapt at operating your camera equipment, you will be provided the help you need.

Registration: The workshop cost NOK 4 350 per person for double room accommodations and NOK 5 850 per person for single room accommodation (only 3 available). Registration is done by submitting a signed booking form. Terms and conditions are clearly stated on our booking form. Registration is binding and course participants will be sent an invoice which shall be paid in advance per the agreed upon deadline. Course participants bear responsibility for purchasing their own cancellation insurance if this is desired. Our policy is "first come, first served", so be sure to register plenty early. Max. 9 participants.

Food and Lodging: Hornøya Lighthouse will serve as the base for our workshop. Here is where we will sleep, have our meals and view pictures (+ some theory). There are a total of 7 bedrooms. The bird cliffs are situated just near the lighthouse. Look forward to spending some sociable and eventful days on one of Norway’s most exciting bird islands.

Course Leader: Ole Jørgen Liodden

Transport: SAS flies to Vardø near Kirkenes. See www.sas.no for more information and fares. Early booking of a flight may make it possible to obtain a round-trip ticket for just over NOK 2 000 via Gardermoen.
